Why I’m Running
Dear House District 6,
My name is Nathan Adams. I am a progressive Democrat seeking your vote as your state representative so that I can serve you and all of our great district, HD6!
My career as a pastor has given me the opportunity to meet all types of people all over our country and to serve in various types of settings. However, as great as those places are, it wasn’t until I arrived in Colorado that I finally felt at home. I love Colorado. I love its people. I love our outdoors! I love our district. This is home. You might find me most mornings running from my home in East Colfax through Lowry to Cherry Creek and all of our great neighborhoods in between or you might see me with my wife and our dogs walking at Verbena Park or grabbing a coffee at one of our favorite local coffee houses. There is no doubt that we all live in a special place.
From a young age my parents taught me the importance of serving and caring for others. Throughout my professional career as a United Methodist pastor, I have strived to live a life of service. As the Lead Pastor of Park Hill United Methodist Church, here in Denver, I have helped our church and its people serve more and more of our community as we grow as a church. I try to live my life not simply saying the right thing, but by also doing the right thing. This is how I lead the church and people I serve. It is how I wish to serve each of you as your state representative.
Like our district, Park Hill UMC is a diverse and inclusive place. It is an honor to serve and lead people of different racial and ethnic backgrounds, various economic and educational realities, and different sexual orientations and gender identities.
As a bi-racial man, raised by a strong, single mother most of my life, I’ve experienced the importance of serving all people. When money and resources were tight growing up, it was the larger community and individuals in it plus our government that helped provide me with a quality education, affordable health care, and a safe and healthy community to call home.
I want to continue this work of service to all people as your HD6 state representative to help ensure that all of our district, especially its most vulnerable such as children, people of color, women, elderly, the LGBQT community, immigrants, and our most economically challenged aren’t forgotten, but are ensured of the same opportunities that we all desire.
Our district, HD6, and our great state of Colorado should be and feel like home to all people. With quality education, affordable healthcare, care for our environment, and criminal justice reform it will.
Let’s get to work serving all of its people to make sure this happens.
Serving all of HD6,
Nathan for Colorado
